　　生于1978年,原籍索馬里的摩加迪沙 ,13歲離開索馬里,他的姑姑, Magool ,是索馬里最有名的歌手。 K’naan的祖父。哈吉穆罕默德,是一個詩人。 K’naan也是一個穆斯林。 后來隨著內戰的繼續和索馬里的局勢繼續惡化,移民加拿大。

    克南出生在索馬里首都摩加迪沙的一個藝術世家，他經歷了這個城市從興到衰的過程。他的爺爺哈吉·穆罕默德是一個杰出的詩人，而姑姑馬古爾則是索馬里最有名的歌手，一家人原本生活得非常幸福。但是，由于國內時局的動蕩，人們生活不下去了，他的父親只能離開了故鄉，來到紐約成為一名出租車司機，每個月將收入結余寄回去供養家人。而克南跟著媽媽，在動蕩的索馬里生活。9歲的時候，為了保護自己，他學會了開槍，但幸運的是，他至今還從來沒有拿槍射擊過任何一個人。因此，在他的歌詞中有很多關于貧窮和戰爭的話題
   
     1991年，索馬里內戰爆發。雖然克南一家早就因為父親的關系，申請了去美國的簽證，但是卻一直沒有辦下來。直到美國已經決定撤回在索馬里的大使館的前一天，克南和媽媽拿到了赴美的簽證，而在整個索馬里陷入癱瘓之前，他們乘上了最后一班商業客機到了紐約，后來又輾轉到了加拿大。
   
     實際上，當克南抵達美洲大陸的時候，他甚至還不會說英語，但是就已經開始學習音樂，開始進行創作。與一般的歌手不同，克南始終將眼光放在了生他養他的非洲大陸，對于他來說，沒有比家鄉更可愛的地方。于是，《做夢的人》、《吟游詩人》等一批歌曲應運而生。在這些歌曲中，充滿了對于戰爭的反思以及非洲人民窮苦根源的思考。
   
    2009年2月，克南創作了一首叫做《飄揚之旗》的歌曲。在歌詞中，他這樣寫道：“看，殖民者是如何對待我們，讓我們為了信仰而斗爭，但最終換來的卻是他們的欺騙。他們想要完全地控制我們，但他們無法這么做，因為我們就像是布法羅的斗士，一直在前進，在為了生存而斗爭，這樣我們終會獲得自由。”這首歌迅速感染了大批痛恨戰爭的人們，讓克南一舉成名，甚至在美國也打下了自己的一片天下。
   
     2009年9月，在國際足聯開始征集世界杯主題曲的時候，克南將自己的歌曲郵寄給了國際足聯。歌詞中對于家鄉的熱愛，對于自由的追求，深深地感染了每一個人。最終，這首《飄揚之旗》被確認為南非世界杯的主題歌，而克南明年夏天也將在南非這塊生生不息的土地上放聲歌唱：“當我慢慢的長大，我會變得更強壯，他們會叫我‘自由’，像是一面飄揚之旗。”索馬里裔歌手柯南（KNaan）
